Rix, overseer of Adelaide's Riverbank precinct redevelopment, has been named Australia’s Planner of the Year 2014.

Mr Rix was awarded the honour at the Planning Institute of Australia’s Awards for Planning Excellence, which took place in Sydney.

His work was weighed against entries from New South Wales and Queensland, with the judges noting his extensive list of achievements and the diverse projects and roles he had taken part in.

He had previously been awarded South Australia’s State Planner of the Year in 2013.

Lord Mayor of Adelaide Stephen Yarwood was also awarded a commendation for promotion of planning.

The Riverbank precinct renewal has been a major focus of Adelaide’s city planning in recent years, with major projects including the expansion of the Adelaide Convention Centre, the redevelopment of the Adelaide Oval in to a modern stadium, and the new footbridge connecting either side of the River Torrens.
