The second annual Entrepreneurs Week will feature a collection of established business identities that will outline lessons from their success and highlight different opportunities.

The program begins in Mount Gambier, in the southeast of South Australia, on May 31 before moving on to the state capital Adelaide for a series of events through to June 15.

Entrepreneurs Support Forum convenor Paul Daly said Entrepreneurs Week would celebrate the roles entrepreneurs played through a series of events across a range of business genres.

“A big part of what we are looking to do through entrepreneurs week is to encourage people to access support that’s available for people building new businesses,” he said.

“Its not just for 18-year-old propeller heads working around a technology start-up, it will be for all sorts of people from different backgrounds and age groups.”

“In order to succeed in business there are several things to focus on and Entrepreneurs Week will look at highlighting those areas.”

Events will explore multiple themes including: how to get started; financial structures; diversity in entrepreneurship; and, the significance of place as a catalyst for entrepreneurial endeavour.

One highlight is the annual SouthStart conference and expo focusing on technology innovation and startups. Keynote speakers include Robert Scoble from UploadVR and Taryn Williams from THERIGHT.FIT. The conference will be held at the Adelaide Convention Centre from June 8-9.

Booking ahead is encouraged for all events during the week.

The program will also showcase South Australia’s opportunity rich environment, unique support programs and success stories from the state’s thriving start-up community. Carbon neutral technology, virtual reality and Adelaide as a UNESCO city of music will be other topics.

Entrepreneurs Week 2016 is a collaboration between Brand South Australia, Adelaide Entrepreneurship Forum, Adelaide City Council and the South Australian Government.

Brand South Australia CEO Karen Raffen said there were many elements that made Adelaide the perfect space for start-up businesses and budding entrepreneurs.

“As a city, Adelaide is relatively small with a connected government that is easy to access, so there is an opportunity for young businesses,” she said.

“We are also a university town with three major universities represented within a square mile of the city and they are very keen to participate in an entrepreneurial landscape and foster how people learn to be entrepreneurs.

“Entrepreneurs Week is aimed at showcasing the ecosystem that exists in South Australia and how people can tap into various elements of that.”

The inaugural Entrepreneurs Week was held in Adelaide last year.
