National Wine Centre's high-tech investment makes it Australia's biggest tasting experience

THE National Wine Centre in South Australia has invested $350,000 in 14 high-tech Enomatic dispensers to transform its Tasting Room in to Australia’s biggest wine sampling experience.

Visitors will be able to try 120 of Australia’s emblematic wines by swiping their ‘wine card’ in the machines, which pour at optimal tasting temperatures in either a 25ml taste, half glass or full glass.

A wide range of wines will be on offer, including the rare chance to sample some of Australia’s most famous and expensive drops, such as Penfolds Grange and the venerable Hill of Grace by Henschke.

While a bottle of either would run over $600 on its own, a taste of Penfolds will cost $27.50, a half glass $75 or a full glass for $150 – somewhat more in reach for a would-be enthusiast.

NWC General Manager Adrian Emeny said that the machines will complement the Centre’s renovation of its exhibition space, extended tasting opening hours and new food and wine event schedule.

“The significant investment comes as consumer trends change and demand for modern convenience continues to grow,” Emeny said.

With wines from across Australia, the NWC, located in the Adelaide CBD, is hoping to attract more visitors and tourists who might not have time to travel out to the regions.

“We will officially launch our new look Tasting Room appropriately called ‘Wined’… It’s all about going back to what the venue was originally designed to be - about education and the full experience associated with wine,” Emeny said.
