SPORTS dominate the summer calendar in South Australia as competitors take to the roads, ovals, water and tracks across the state.
Competing in everything from cycling to V8 supercars, professional athletes from across the world will converge on Adelaide beginning with the World Tennis Challenge on 13 January.
Highlights include the ICC World Cup at the Adelaide Oval, where India will take on Pakistan in the biggest rivalry in world cricket.
Here’s the sporting line up:
World Tennis Challenge 2015 – 13-15 January
Four teams compete over three nights to be crowned the Champs. The teams are made up of one current champion and one legend of the sport. Held at the historic courts next to the Adelaide Oval. The tournament starts with a kid’s tennis day on 11 January.
Adelaide Bite – 15 January
Baseball has a long history in South Australia – even longer than cricket. The boys of summer play Melbourne on 15 January at the historic Norwood Oval.
National Junior Track Championships - 15-16 January
Australia’s best junior track cyclists meet in the final round of the NJTS to determine the overall winners. Held at the Adelaide Super-drome.
Santos Tour Down Under – 17-25 January
The world’s best road cyclists hit the streets of Adelaide and the regional roads and hills of South Australia’s wine districts in the first round of the UCI World Tour. The 6 Stages cover the city, hills, wine regions and coasts of South Australia from a tour HQ in Victoria Square, the centre of Adelaide.
Port Lincoln Tunarama Festival – 23-26 January
It’s the largest regional festival in South Australia – with the highlight being punters tossing tuna as far as they can. Celebrating the main fishery of the region, the tuna toss is fiercely contested. They chuck rubber fish these days.

Adelaide United – 24 January
The soccer season is on all summer at Cooper’s Stadium, with Adelaide United meeting the Newcastle Jets on 24 January.
Brighton Jetty Classic – 1 February
Open water swimming at it’s best. The Brighton Jetty Classic is a full day of water sport fun.
Kangaroo Island Cup – 13 February
There is nothing like a day at the races, and the KI Cup is a perfect opportunity to watch some great horse racing while enjoying all that Kangaroo Island has to offer. The full list of country race carnivals is available through Thoroughbred Racing SA
ICC Cricket World Cup – 15 February to March
The cricket world cup hits the Adelaide Oval with India taking on Pakistan. Other matches include England vs Bangladesh and Pakistan vs Ireland.
Adelaide Track Classic – 21 February
Australia’s best athletes hit the track and fields at the SA Ahtletics Stadium to vie for places on the national team ahead of the World Championships.

Clipsal 500 Adelaide – 26 February - 1 March
The first round of the V8 Supercars roars through the city circuit in Adelaide. The drivers love the tight bends, giving the crowds plenty of action. The Sunday performance by Cold Chisel is a fitting finale.
Adelaide Thunderbirds – 28 February
The dual-premiership netballers kick off their season against Waikato BOP Magic at the Netball SA Stadium.
The summer finale sees senior surf lifesavers battle it out on the beaches for gold before heading to The Aussies.
