South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill has opened Paydirt Media’s Resources and Energy Investment Conference at the Adelaide Convention Centre today.
The conference has a strong focus on the international market for Australian resources and technology such as uranium, coal, natural gas, and renewables, as well as exploration opportunities and applied technology.
Weatherill’s opening address described South Australia’s unique position in supplying the growing energy needs of India and China, both in energy security and lowering carbon emissions through renewables.
“India has recognised the essential need to urgently transition to renewable sources of energy. But it also needs to consider its immediate energy demand that has to be met for India to continue its impressive trajectory of economic and social progress,” the Premier said.
“South Australia is one of the few jurisdictions able to respond to this demand.”
The conference also has a dedicated session on uranium, hosting a panel including Daniel Zavattiero, Executive Director of Uranium on the Minerals Council of Australia.
Ten delegates from the China National Nuclear Corporation are attending the conference as guests of the Department of Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy (DMITRE), part of an information sharing agreement on uranium geology and exploration.
The conference runs from 6 – 8 May, 2014.
